CASE STUDY: Woking Community Hospital’s new Community Diagnostic Hub (CDH)

Client: Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Location: Woking
Sector: Healthcare
Project: Community Diagnostics Hub (CDH)

Project Overview
4C Lighting Solutions was appointed as the lighting partner to design and deliver wireless lighting and control to Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust in a new Community Diagnostics Hub (CDH) at Woking Community Hospital, including a bat conservation area to the rear of the car park.

The CDH facility represents a pivotal advancement for Woking Community Hospital and North West Surrey, offering enhanced diagnostic testing capacity including x-rays, ultrasounds, cardiac, and respiratory testing. This expansion aims to alleviate patient waiting times, ensuring timely access to crucial healthcare services.

This 500m2 facility, which will be connected to the existing hospital infrastructure, will house MRI and PET CT scanner suites, along with consultation rooms and a reception area.

What makes 4C Lighting Solutions approach so unique? The only requirement for lighting and sensors is a mains connection. Using our Merit Mesh system, which will automatically form a mesh network once installed, offering maximum flexibility during the commissioning phase.

We utilised the correct colour temperature LEDs to protect the bats as well as using the Merit Mesh system features to ensure that the lighting was dimmed to the correct level to not affect the bats habitat, whilst still providing adequate lighting for patient access.

Benefits
The Merit Mesh system brings automation to the lighting installation. It improves efficiency, energy savings, and a reduced carbon footprint.

The experience of Merit Mesh with large hospital installations makes it the smartest choice for this type of hospital construction. Significant savings on construction can be achieved due to the flexibility and absence of control wiring. Furthermore, it delivers a significant saving on the embedded carbon footprint of the installation. The system is extremely flexible and configured on site to suit any applications.
